Ukraine minerals a deal? It's in his so called "victory plan" and he brought it to U.S. before election and presented it both Harris campaign and Trump campaign, as well as Biden admin and other US politicians such as lindsey graham.

It's Zelensky who tried to add value to Ukraine in order to get aid from U.S. by selling Ukraine minerals deal at first. Now he is playing the victim card when he got the taste of real businessman Trump and realized his salesman trick won't work.

I find it funny not that you are embarrassed by this novel idea in the context of where we are in this disaster (an important piece of information to understand when considering this), but that you are not embarrassed by the policies you supported that facilitated the whole thing.

I have ZERO doubt that DOGE is going to find a rats nest of corruption and misdirected funds in the Ukrainian aid packages. The Dem House shut down GOP efforts to put oversight on the money to ensure it was going to what we were being told.
We've seen how they did in that regard in USAID and FEMA so far.

Staying on topic…in my opinion, what Zelensky proposed and what Trump proposed are two different things. That’s why Zelensky declined Trump’s proposal.

I like Trump (not love) and here is how I assume this is going......
1) Trump is ending this conflict because he is absolutely getting us out of it - we can't win. He got us out of the Afghanistan conflict, he wants out.
You and i agree on what we want to see, but it will have to be tempered by what is still possible.
2) Trump and Zelensky both know that Ukraine has to rebuild itself after the end of conflict. Selling mineral rights is an excellent way to help accomplish this. It creates jobs, industry, and lots and lots of cash - better than oil right now.
Trump realizes that the US has to pay somebody for these materials - it may as well be to help Ukraine, especially since they suggested it! Two birds with one stone.

I definitely do NOT think that Trump can be talked into continuing the conflict if Ukraine gives us the mineral rights - Zelensky cannot bribe the US's support in this way.

Now we also agree on how bad Putin has been.
Zelensky has been very brave. Zelensky has been very manipulative as well.
All of these things are not mutually exclusive - these things can all be true at the same time.
The Dem congress refused to allow financial oversight on the money given to Ukraine (they blocked efforts by R's to have this done to make sure the money was going to where it was intended). Ukraine is a country with a reputation as being one of the most corrupt in the world before the war (ask Hunter about Burisma).
There is a LOT of missing money that DOGE will be looking into, and there is a chance (we'll see) that Zelensky and his friends have squirreled a lot away for themselves).
I think that we are very wise to get out of this unwinnable mess before more lives are lost, and it escalates further.

I agree that the war is not winnable for the Ukraine, but far be it for me to demand that they concede 20% of their land, give up 50% of their mineral rights, and let Putin Putin run roughshod in their country. All I hear and see is Trump appeasing Putin. Putin doesn’t have to give up shit. Keep in mind that the Russian economy is in free fall. Trump needs to negotiate from a position of strength. And the financial oversight point is false. Other than humanitarian aid, most of the $$$ was in the form of munitions and equipment. The military aid also created 10s of thousands of jobs in the US gov con vertical. This is a fact and it’s indisputable.

We will see on whether the money made it to it's proper purpose soon enough, but I always get nervous when Democrats block efforts at oversight of money - recent history has shown that there is good reason for this concern.
