Any accounting people on the board? Wondering if I am screwed

In 2023, it turns out a company I was doing some independent consulting for mis-calculated my compensation on my 1099. I noticed it when running some numbers of my 2024 taxes, and things did not add up. While they acknowledged the error, and sent me a new form, I cannot find anywhere an option to submit a corrected 1099 for the previous year. I should have paid more attention when doing my taxes last year, but as of now it appears I am going to be screwed out of about $2,000.

Is there a way to correct last years income on a 1099 to get that money I overpaid last year?

I overpaid a significant amount one year and was eventually able to get it back. It took 2 years.

I filed an amended return with the correct amount. Getting a hold of someone was impossible. The people I did speak to all said something different. Someone was assigned to review my amended return and they basically closed it with out any notification. In the end their math did not match my revised math, but the pain and agony of dealing with them was worth it.

Just amend your return through the IRS. Or send the information to #elonmuskprivateinformation.com

There are some online tax services you can use to do that online.

The usual sites won't work (TurboTax, etc.), but some indicate they will do it for a fee, which sounds like it would be worth it for $2K in overpaid taxes. Just hit Google and the snippets pop right up.

You can also just go to the IRS website and get a 1040-X form and send it in.

Looks like freetaxusa will do it for $16. Definitely worth it.

Hope you and your family are doing well.

you have to file an amended 2023 return (can't do it on your 2024 return)
