A great career. So many memorable characters. A likeable villain. And in Hoosiers a redeemed human being.

Dennis claims that the scene where he and Gene are sitting on the team bench, you could see Dennis break into a smile because of Gene dissing the movie. Uncredited part in "Young Frankenstein" anyone? Apparently, Gene sought out a role in the movie so they wrote this part in. This are just things I read and heard over the years about the life and times of the late great Gene Hackman.
He really didn't want to do the film, thought it was going to be a dud, and could not see the director's vision for how it would really work as a film. However, once it was edited and the scenes, music, etc. all spliced up, he realized how good it was. But he filmed the whole thing thinking that it would be a dud. Crazy, because it's not like he was some inexperienced actor who hadn't been through the process before.
