Who are your top 5 favorite guitarists? Any genres…
Here’s mine…
1. Clapton
2. Stevie Ray Vaughn
3. Steven Stills
4. Mike McCready
5. Glenn Campbell (yes, I’m serious. Check out his performance of Gentle on my Mind on YouTube)
I don't have a real top 5 myself, but most of the ones I really like have already been named, didn't see Slash on here.
I've seen him in videos for sound check where he just plays and the guitar sings.
If he's not on your list, you're not cool.
Because I think many did the best anyone could do with what they were doing. For example, I don't see how anyone could play better for Journey than Neil Schon. Same for Brian May with Queen. I could probably list two dozen more examples. That's why I don't think there's such a thing as a top 5, because they would all be equal...at least to me.
...also, if we're opening up to non-rock genres...
>Michael Hedges (YouTube..."Aerial Boundaries")
>Alex De Grassi (YouTube..."Turning, Turning...")
George Harrison (and this is the wow category of ability in composition - Prolific)
Rory Galliger
Roy Buchanan
Richie Blackmore
Hendrix
And Jimmy Page
And truthfully - Bo Didley, BB King, Carlos Santana, Frank Zappa, Prince, Pete Townsand, Steve Howe, Steve Hackett,
all could be in the top of anyone's list.

He said "I don't know, ask Prince."
John Frusciante and Buckethead stand out to me for the best in my generation. I am seeing Buckethead on the 13th.
