there are lots of pretenders, but there is only one. the signature dessert created by the head chef at the john marshall hotel in richmond, va., a little over a hundred years ago. even the hotel lost the recipe, but my parents had managed to get their hands on a copy back in the 1940's and it remains in the family to this day. it is a taste treasure not to be forgotten.
