There's no delusion whatsoever among Democrats as to what goals they have...i.e. all the
values of Democracy and Opportunity for ALL Americans...not just the wealthiest among us...which is what Trump and his Plutocrat supporters are all about.
The issue for Dems is finding candidates and campaign strategies that can cut through the "Flood the Zone" media lies and misinformation being thrown at the public by podcasters and FOX which people like Steve Bannon promote.
In actuality, the "Cooperate with Republicans" strategy of Biden and Schumer produced significant legislation that has benefited ALL Americans...e.g. Infrastructure, CHIPS Act and the Inflation Reduction Act which is advancing much needed energy programs (including, Nuclear Power). In contrast, Trump's admins haven't done a thing for the country...even killing the bipartisan "Best Border Security and Immigration Bill in decades", per the lead GOP Senator, James Lankford.
Right now, DJT is wreaking havoc on the GOP with his DOGE and Anti-Ukraine actions...Republican lawmakers can't even set up Town Hall meetings in their districts for fear of the backlash from their own constituents...so, it will be interesting to see what polls have to say about Trump 2.0 in the coming weeks and months.
Democrats will have no problem providing any candidate with campaign material for the next elections.
