It's Trump who lives in the past when it comes to Putin's Russia.
This is practically a third world country. It has an economy smaller than Italy's with most of its serfs outside Moscow and St. Petersburg living in dire poverty. It produces not a single "product" that anyone wants to buy other than raw materials. Its technology is archaic. Its Potemkin military failed to conquer a far weaker neighbor after three years of trying AND has lost hundreds of thousands of troops, most of its armor, its puny Black Sea fleet and many of its outdated aircraft. It has failed to maintain or update its nuclear arsenal, which is totally unreliable. And most telling of all: it has suffered an epic brain drain as its best young minds have fled for better opportunities and lives abroad.
In 2025, it makes no sense to see Putin as a leader of a Great Power.
