Here's something that might interest the Democratic leaning types regarding the budget and tax cuts.

This has to do with how items to be reconciled in the proposed budget are scored from a spending perspective. Rs (Trump) wants to treat the tax cuts as already accounted for, which is a departure from past CBO scoring practice.

"There are reports indicating that Senate Republicans will simply ignore any ruling by the Parliamentarian that an extension of the 2017 Trump tax cuts has to be paid for. Instead, they are claiming that the Chair of the Budget Committee, Senator Linsay Graham, has the authority to set the budget rules for consideration of the budget reconciliation legislation, and that he can rule that the tax cuts are the current baseline and do not have to be paid for.

Democrats are loudly objecting to this ploy. But they may not be able to stop the Republicans from proceeding in this manner."

Corrupt pols don't want trillion dollar tax cuts for billionaires to count?

Bad precedent & no offsetting cuts so both aren’t great

Yes indeed. That will allow them to pretend that the budget deficit is not as big.

But it’s smoke and mirrors.

This is what authoritarians all around the world do - the books are not going to look good…so just change them!

So extending tax cuts that have been in place for 8 years adds to the deficit?

Sure, that makes sense.

Trillions in tax cuts for billionaires reduces income, and balloons annual deficits.

Who cares? We'll never have to pay off the debt according to you.

Face it, you don't care about the deficit when you are in charge. Why do you care about it now? Because you are a partisan: Party first, country last.

As for me, I say cut everything all the time until we balance the budget, and start paying down the debt enough that we can enter a major war and take on new debt for that endeavor without destroying our nation financially.

We never have to pay it all off, no.

We should not add to it in boom times.

DOGE cuts are not going to save us any money. We are going to offset them all with tax cuts. And the deficit will keep growing.

They say they are trying to save an extra $4B per day, every day. Worth fighting against?

deficits...remember, back then we had rational people on both sides and ended up with a Senate vote of 99-1 in favor of legislation that cut spending and increased taxes on corps + wealthiest, resulting in a SURPLUS.

Why doesn't Trump want to use a "Tried and True" method like that?...Actually, I know the answer, but it would be fun to hear yours.
