The fundamentals of this economy were fine. All this was caused by the idiocy of one moron.
We know from basic trade 101 that a well-functioning trading regime would not permit the large, persistent trade imbalances that characterized as persistent trade surplus side like china, south korea, Japan, Germany...and persistent trade deficit loser side like United States. It is unsustainable.
Also, for those in denial that a new rule is needed to encourage a return to the benefits of true free trade.
You're in denial.
We let this play out? You guys jump the gun time and time again only to made to look like idjits. If you had any self awareness, you wouldn’t do it time and time again but yet, here we are.
I tell you what, I’ll make a bet with you. If this tariff plan fails, I’ll stop posting for a year. If it’s successful, you stop posting for a year? Deal?
And who would decide if the tariffs are successful,” Trump? You?
If Trump doesn’t back down on tariffs and the Dow Jones crosses 48000 by December 31st, then I will declare you the smartest poster on the Board, and stop posting for a year. [Dow was 44000 when Trump took office].
And you can then resume posting.

The president can only usurp congressional control of commerce in an emergency. Otherwise, the constitution is clear - the Commerce Clause gives that power to Congress.
But the president gets to decide what is an emergency.
You really have to be delusional to think there was a worldwide trade emergency that justifies all this.
I tried to dumb it down for Ned last month.
