Asked them not to use it? Chinese EV doubled it's sale in EU last year. Not to mention there are significant trade barriers within the EU countries.
The author made this fiction purely based on political alliance. But ideology is cheap, political alliance doesn't cost much. Economy is about self interest. No country will sacrifice their own interest for American's interest.
