Imagine you have a patient in labor about todeliver a child.
ICE agents appear on the ward and tell the charge nurse that your patient is an illegal immigrant who has unlawfully re entered the United States.
Do you have the authorities take her into custody? Or do you make sure your patient and her newborn are protected from the Gestapo?
The agents said dutifully that they would wait until proceedings were over. Your analogy fails.
I would tell them that I need to complete my work, and they would be understanding and wait.
I am not an ICE agent, so I would not presume to do their work.
