One of the things the Canuckians get right: public religious schools.

Many argue that this is a separation of church and state issue, but I think it is more about teachers unions and keeping a captive audience than anything else at this point.

separation of church and state issues. I like vouchers better.

Also, I had to pay to put 3 through 1-12 or 36 years total of tuition. Best investment we made, but I want to share the joy of that tuition payment with others. Just kidding, I think.

An interesting issue fraught with some risk for the Catholic Schools also.

On the Catholic school side:
1) I’d be very wary of govt funding. Strings that aren’t there now can crop up there later (see Europe).
Also, there is an inevitable dependency that results from coming to rely on large amounts of critical funding that
can then lead to a voluntary decision by administrators to be primarily influenced more by the source of funding
(The govt). ( see recent USAID funding of Catholic Relief Services).
2) Such schools would be free and likely take students from the traditional Catholic schools - weakening both
the traditional Catholic schools and the new charter per Catholic schools by splitting their enrollment
2) The opposition lawyer makes a good point about Wiccan schools and other evil demonic entities that could then
do the same. It opens a potentially large can of worms. This may not be widespread, but it would still be terrible
and could provide a foothold for all sorts of dangerous groups.

Sadly, it is the utter failure of the Public School System driven in large part by the Teachers Union that has driven this. The Union became radicalized and turned the public school’s primary mission into one of employment rather than child education. The COVID school shut down was a shining example of this in California.

I think it is VERY likely that the Catholic Schools will win this case, but be careful what you wish for.

Turning around the public schools cannot happen without removing the present teachers Union from the equation, and since charter schools are the best viable way to do that, it’s probably a necessary risk to take.

Many edits due to my issues with my iPad -all done at time of initial post as always.

I agree with you. My old firm did a lot of work for the Catholic church who sacrificed hospitals

to keep the schools. The government interference with the Catholic message will be too tempting.

A voucher system is a better option, but teacher's unions are powerful.
