Russia hasn’t learned from their past. Same stale tactics, same shitty leadership from the top down. Yes, technology has improved, but that obviously hasn’t been enough. 3 years in and Russia has made minimal gains. In this case, let's imagine that the US eliminates all aid to Ukraine, which as a result is obliterated by Putin's hordes.
In that case, we look weak and pathetic in the eyes of the world AND Putin must somehow rule a devasted country that hates him while he flails to bring Russia into the modern world economically and technologically.

Russia exited in outright defeat.
While the US withdrawal was a clusterfuck and a disaster, we drew down our forces in a systematic way so that the Afghan government wasn’t taken by surprise. Unfortunately, the Afghan army didn’t have the backbone to fight off the reinvigorated Taliban.
I’m hopeful that the aid doesn’t completely stop.. Pauses in aid only helps Russia. At least the EU is standing fast with aid.
All that said, in my opinion, the Ukraine is the new front. Letting them fail is letting Eastern Europe fail.
