Saw a billboard the other day. It read "The Championship at Oakmont".

Say no more.

Eff King Charles and the R & A.

Here's a video you all might enjoy.

Not in the mood to argue. I'm in agreeance with Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan and the Golden Bear.

-1 or -2 could win it. Making pars is key, while avoiding doubles and triples.

Players have to be extremely disciplined, taking their bogey medicine when required.

I'll be surprised if the winner score is under par.

The rough length and thickness is stupid and unnecessary. Any course can ramp up the Stimpmeter to 14 to make itself harder. Doing dumb stuff like this seems to be a source of pride amongst the locals.

Oakmont is a fine and worthy test of professional golf without being tricked up the way the USGA did it. This will be the "Massacre at Winged Foot" all over again.

I crushed it.

I was telling anyone that will listen that -18 or lower will win this week.

Agree about USGA over tinkering w/ course.

I played Congressional about 7-10 days before US Open when Rory won.

Rough was perfect. USGA, thinking rough would be too thick, cut it. Then DC had a drought. Completely changed the course as there was no longer a penalty for missing fairways.

Oakmont greens are always super fast. No need to make them lightening faster.

The local greenskeepers are best positioned to set up course for the tournament. The USGA should have input, but need to say in their lane.

The members play to faster greens. Speed is only one factor on the greens.

You two expert golfers know it all.

Oakmont is a nice course. I've said it before. You getting your dander up over a course you've never played is adorable.

Did I mention they slow the greens down for the Open?

Renowned by past USGA President Jim Hand as the one course in the country where you can step out and play the U.S. Open there tomorrow, Lee Trevino seconded that sentiment with one important addendum. “You have to slow the greens down. You can’t play the course the way the members do. Man, those members are crazy.”

Thread Level: 13

No offense, but most any course can speed up their greens to insane levels. It's not hard.

The question is why would you do it? Most members don't want super-fast, ridiculous greens because when they go to the club they go to enjoy spending time with their buddies and have some fun. Golfers, at least normal golfers, don't go to the club to grind every round. They just don't. At our courses, the greens are sped up for the Member-Guest and the Club Cs, or when we host a qualifier. Other than that, members want a fair, enjoyable test and they can get that without having to dial up the greens to 14 on the stimp.

Oakmont does it so they can brag about it. Cool. No question it certainly makes Oakmont tougher to play. But the members at Pine Valley, Cypress, and Carnoustie know they have tough tracks without having to trick up their greens.

There is much more to the OCC greens than speed.

You are also ignoring that you have to hit
very good shots with most of the clubs in your bag.

It’s a stern test that rewards great golfers.

Obviously.
