The winner of the 2025 US Open will be a power guy with nerves of steel and a feather touch.

Not necessarily long drive power. Power to get the ball out of the vicious rough.

The guy who can make a short to medium putt to save a par.

Scheffler and DeChambeau are justifiable favorites. Rahm and DJ also have a good chance.

Hope it's Rory time, again.

Scheffler, Bryson and Rahm are obvious choices, with Scottie being the overwhelming favourite.

DJ has zero shot. He's checked out since retiring to LIV the summer of 2022. Here's his Majors record since then:

2023
Masters: T48
PGA: T55
US Open: T10
Open Championship: CUT

2024
Masters: CUT
PGA: T43
US Open: CUT
Open Championship: T31

2025
Masters: CUT
PGA: CUT

He's missed 5 of the last 7 cuts. He won't be recreating his 2016 victory here.

Not high on Bryson, last year he was spraying his drives but rarely got penalized

this year is very different.

mcilroy has a new driver replacing his "nonconforming" one and has reported greater accuracy.

if that's true and he hits fairways and doesn't miss any short putts (gasp!!!!), he will be a strong contender. if not, he'll tumble down the board.

I don't know what to make of Rory's chances.

He's openly admitted a lack of motivation since winning The Masters. He was completed zoned out last weekend. He could win the US Open or shoot 80-78 and miss the cut. Neither would surprise me.

As to his illegal driver that's such a non-story. Scottie's was ruled non-conforming that same week as were several others but Rory's was the only name that leaked to the press. No big deal. I don't think there was any intent to cheat. Guys that swing that hard can knock a conforming driver into non-conformance with their violent contact on every swing.

the nonconforming driver is, indeed, a non-story because it's caused by them hitting so hard.

happens to all of them. the problem was the replacement. he couldn't relate to last week's, so now he's switched again to a taylor made and his confidence is back up. he's been quoted as saying he's embracing the open challenge now because it is so difficult.

we'll see.

The "non-conforming" drivers buiness is a non-story. Actually heard it first with regard to Scotty

...here and saw him address it first as no big deal and something they were prepared for...

Agree...Rory could fall anywhere.

Not seeing it with Rahm either. His LIV fall off hasn't been like DJ's but he does seem to have trouble keeping concentration and putting four good rounds together since his foray into the LIV booty...

Don't give up on Rahm.

His game wobbled when he started at LIV. A T45 at The Masters, Cut at the PGA and a WD at the US Open in 2024 looked really bad. But he's figured out how to prepare for the big competitions since then. His three latest Major results:

2024 Open Championship: T7
2025 Masters: T14
2025 PGA: T8

I'd put him in the 2nd tier of contenders with Bryson, Xander, Rory and a couple of others. Scottie sits in the 1st tier all by himself.

Haven't given up. Still not seeing his full-time concentration level back in time for this one...
