To many, COVID relief was the makeup call for the 2008 bailouts. Biden was targeting churches
for "fraud" regarding COVID relief. They argued that if a Catholic church was part of a Diocese, then it wasn't an independent entity and shouldn't have asked for and accepted the funds. Mind you, many of the Catholic churches were using the money to keep their schools afloat during COVID, so no way BidenCo was going to support that.
The real "crime" was the extent to which the money was handed and the handouts were exploited. I knew of several small business owners who took the money and ended up driving around in brand new cars, to the extent they were available.
Just like D’s also block DOGE efforts to eliminate fraud & abuse. conor calls this “moral standing”.
