American golfers destroyed Portrush.

When a course has to rely on lousy weather to defend itself, it should not host a Major.

Congrats to Scottie for leading the assault.

The TPC should be the 4th Major.

The English championship is of lesser ilk.

The entire field of Professionals in this year's Open at Portrush has testified to that...regardless of what countries they come from.

The Portrush Dunluce Course is absolutely gorgeous...even for amateur players...as well as the Northern Ireland coast...a valid addition to any golfer's 'Bucket List'. If you end up going, be sure to consider expanding your stay with a visit to the Royal County Down golf course (note that the Men's Locker Room there has a Huge Dryer inside, so bring a change of clothes in case you get caught with some 'Not So Soft' weather...your golf togs will be dry when you finish a meal and a pint in the dinning area ;-)

AI Overview

Professional golfers praise Portrush's challenging and fair layout

Professional golfers have widely expressed admiration for the Royal Portrush Golf Club, particularly the Dunluce Links course, citing its challenging yet fair design. It's a true links test, rugged, wind-swept, and demands strategic play.

Players have remarked on the course's immaculate conditioning, showcasing its readiness for major tournaments like The Open Championship. The course presents a stiff challenge, especially when factoring in the unpredictable weather conditions like wind and rain common on the Northern Ireland coast. However, despite the difficulty, many pros find the course to be playable and enjoyable, according to Golfpass.

Some key aspects highlighted by professionals include:

Natural Contours and Dunes: The course design seamlessly integrates with the natural undulations of the duneland, requiring precise shot-making and strategic thinking.
Challenging Greens: The greens are described as fast, true, and undulating, demanding excellent putting skills. One professional remarked on the significant slopes and breaks on the greens compared to other links courses.

Signature Holes: Specific holes like the 14th, known as "Calamity Corner," are frequently mentioned for their demanding nature and spectacular scenery.

"Brutally Fair": This phrase captures the general sentiment, acknowledging the difficulty but also the feeling that good shots are rewarded fairly.

While acknowledging the challenging nature, particularly the rough and strategic demands, the overwhelming sentiment from the golfing community, including professionals, leans towards high praise for Royal Portrush's Dunluce Links, solidifying its place among the world's elite courses.
