But white liberals were enraged, apparently.

Denial is the universal human defense mechanism for repressing disagreeable anxieties.
military installations. I never called Ft Bragg, Ft Liberty. Just stupid all around, imo.
Or should he have left it Ft. Liberty, the name the Biden handlers chose for it?
military personnel choosing him for that NC base...had to be local pols.

And frankly, nobody that I served with paid attention who Ft Bragg was named after. Totally stupid to rename a military installation to make people that didn’t serve feel better.
Ft Benning and the others.
first place.
The original names were selected as an effort to facilitate reunification after the Civil War, not to support slavery. I know the Left doesn't like the fact that we reunified, and still wants to punish people today for sins of the nation from 160 year ago. They probably also hate that President Grant asked for half confederate veterans, half Union veterans to carry his casket as well. God forbid we come together in this nation. Separation is fuel for their political engine, after all.
But, now, names like Ft. Benning, Ft. Bragg, etc. have secondary meaning. You say Ft. Bragg to a soldier, and he thinks 82nd Airborne, special operations, etc. You say Ft. Benning, and he thinks of the infantry school (and more recently, armor), airborne training, rangers, and the like. Ft. Hood is the 1st Cavalry. Hardly anyone was aware of the sources of the 150 year old names until the Democrat culture warriors were looking for some virtue signals they could send. They like to use the military that way when they get control of the presidency. And even then, to portray those names as standing for anything other than an attempt to rebuild a unified Republic is misleading.

The term "Redskins" was never intended to 'Honor' Native Americans...and 'Tomahawk Chops' are just as repugnant. Time for a bunch of Non-Native Americans to grow up and start showing respect for this long abused race of fellow Americans.
-----------------
Anita Whitworth, 62, also belongs to the confederation. A mother of five who worked for years as a chemical-dependency counselor, she hates the name.
She views it much the same way that many activists do. They argue that the central problems ravaging native communities — poverty, violence and addiction — can only be fixed if young people take pride in who they are.
Her youngest, Whitworth said, is a dark-skinned 13-year-old who attends an almost entirely non-native school in a region long plagued by racial tension.
When she looks at him, Whitworth thinks back to the years of disparagement she’s endured.
She has seen store employees follow her because they suspect she will steal something. She has heard derogatory comments in restaurants.
She has also been called a “Redskin.”
“I don’t want to ever have my son experience anything like that,” she said. “It’s time to change. It’s time to move on.”

There are more than a few of our American Indian friends who like and prefer the name Redskins. And one anecdotal account doesn't negate the fact that our American Indian friends overwhelmingly had zero problem with the name.

"Redskins" to be "DISRESPECTFUL"...that's not just one anecdotal reference...i.e. a significant segment of that population is not happy about it.
It would have been interesting had the poll asked the question..."Would you rather the Washington Team had selected some name other than 'Redskins'?"...IMHO the results would have resulted in a majority "YES" response.
"Redskins" a representation of toughness. Hell I confuse the Commanders and call them the Commodores half the time.
I thought you lefties were big on democracy. Since when did 20% become more than 80%?
