"The Mediocrity Feedback Loop" aka "Conor Syndrome"

I wish I had coined this phrase. I've noted the praise for garbage films and shows for some time, in no small part due to conor's positive recommendations, but I wish I could have distilled it down to this kind of succinct expression.

No wonder we get more and more garbage.

I think part of it is that people have generally much lower expectations, and part of it is that the movie industry is dying and the “critics” have a self-interest in promoting movies rather than filtering good from bad.

Same issue with pro-sports IMHO. The quality has fallen off.

Someone has compiled most Sislkel & Ebert episodes and it's fun to watch them sometimes.

The NYT's Vincent Canby was always a tough grader.
