I oppose it, always. And what Texas is doing is particularly awful.

Everyone should oppose it.

it can take other, insidious, hidden forms.

like importing millions of illegal aliens and stuffing them into population pockets where the opposition thrives, then make it legal for them to vote. you know - overwhelm/neutralize your opponent with numbers. this is really a form of gerrymandering that the left was trying to hide.

Clearly, you haven't spent a moment trying to understand the Immigration issue...here's the GOP

Co-Author of the bipartisan Senate Border Security and Immigration Bill, that Trump killed, explaining it on the Senate floor. All your concerns are addressed, yet you won't seek the information out for yourself...take advantage of Senator Lankford's speech and watch it...

I don't like starting a redistricting war, and I worry that these will backfire.

I hate what Illinois did/does, and part of me wants to "punch back" here. But I worry that this will create a nation-wide domino effect with no foreseeable end.

Similarly, these things can and do backfire. The Texas proposal is "expected" to generate 5 red seats. And supposedly, it doesn't significantly impact the districts currently carrying a G.O.P. advantage. But we've seen these things boomerang in ways not anticipated, and the Law of Unintended Consequences is a real thing.

If this were motivated by the influx of illegal immigration during the Biden administration, I'd be all in. But it's not. And I'd rather they just stand down on it.

a little poison (Gerrymandering) can be harmful...a lot of poison can be deadly. Do you believe in every citizen's vote mattering?...if so, OPPOSE the Texas Gerrymander Redistricting plan.

-----------------------
AI Overview

Several factors contribute to concerns about the potential dangers of the Texas redistricting plan, according to various sources:

Erosion of Fair Representation: The most recent proposed plan, coming only five years after the previous one, raises concerns about a deepening of the erosion of fair representation caused by partisan gerrymandering in Texas.

Dilution of Minority Voting Power: Democrats and civil rights groups allege the plan would further dilute the voting power of minority voters, particularly Black and Latino voters, who have driven the state's population growth. This echoes past findings by courts that Texas' district maps have illegally diluted the voting power of minorities, according to 5 Calls.

Potential Impact on National Politics: The potential changes could significantly impact the 2026 midterm elections and affect the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Concerns about Partisan Intent: The push to redraw the maps before the usual 10-year cycle has raised concerns that the move is primarily intended to favor one political party over another.

Decreased Voter Participation: Gerrymandering, including the Texas plan, can discourage voter participation by creating "safe" districts where the outcome is predictable and makes people less inclined to vote, says KERA News.

Stifling New Candidates: The creation of solidly red or blue districts can also discourage qualified candidates from running for office, knowing their chances are significantly diminished in a gerrymandered district, notes KERA News.

Legal and Constitutional Questions: The plan faces legal challenges claiming violations of the U.S. Constitution and the Voting Rights Act by intentionally diluting the voting strength of minority groups.

The Texas redistricting plan, and gerrymandering in general, are highly contentious issues with significant implications for fair representation and the democratic process.
