The poll shows that Mamdani’s ideas are much more popular than Mamdani himself. Asked whether they “approve or disapprove of the following proposals to lower the cost of living” — none of which were attributed to Mamdani — Americans approved by wide margins in every instance:

Food was a right for Soviet citizens. Result: mostly empty store shelves at best, the holodomor at worst.
Same with housing...everyone gets shitholes to live in because no one builds/maintains nice free housing, ever. Rent restrictions are for morons because they guarantee shitty housing. The government historically exempts itself from requirements it imposes on private businesses.
Worst thing for this country would be to implement your policies.
The history of US housing projects and rent controls should be taught in high school. It is not. Having a "right" to the labor of another is slavery, however it is pitched to people who don't study history. And slaves don't get good quarters or good meals.
...never mind the lower income residents in the most expensive city in this country.
Clock is ticking, Ned.

A rising sea lifts all boats. That is my proposal.
Your proposal is to lower everyone to the same crappy level, except for Party Members.
Both systems have inequality of status, but mine has high status and economic mobility for anyone who wants it. Yours has low status and economic immobility except for party Members. Your inequality is based on power, whereas mine is based on equality of opportunity and merit. Mine, the American way, helps the bottom 50% by raising them up. The more you promise to give people by taking from others, the more you destroy the benefits of capitalism and replace it with a shit sandwich for everyone...which is equality of status, your goal. But no one wants that.
your purpose. The truth of the matter is...getting back to the OP regarding Mamdani's proposal, he's focused only on those making ~$1M/yr and up, which would then leave probably 99% of New Yorkers as they were. Now, don't you feel much better?
Note that the CEO to Average Worker compensation back in the early 60's was on the order of 26:1...whereas today it's above 300:1. Looks to me like a lot of former Kindergarteners never learned how to "SHARE" their toys.
Wealth disparity grows under every administration going back to Reagan or before. It's a broken system.
now it's north of 300:1...it's the root of much of our national distress.

Then the gap gets bigger.
The wealthy didn't get their wealth because they are stupid. If competition picks winners, they will compete. If government picks winners, they will embrace power. And the surest way to hold power is to keep others dependent on government handouts, not dependent on their own abilities to compete.
We started our "War on Poverty" in the 1960's, when poverty was decreasing already. We had a solution without a problem, but it made people feel good to be doing domething. Government got involved, and now things are worse.
If you're willing to step away for a moment from your fantasy world, go to the library and pick up "Tyranny, Inc." by Conservative, Sohrab Ahmari to see how even the Middle Class has the cards stacked against it. A more progressive government is essential for the well being of ALL Americans...not just those with generational wealth.
