There were about 5 or 6 cops in the group. They asked the guy and his friends if they heard about the police being federalized. The cops said that they’re just trying to keep everyone safe and then they reminded the citizens not to smoke or drink outside. Smoke or drink? I thought the objective was to quell violent crime, which I’m good with.
The residents were minding their own business, and the L.E. agents were just giving a heads-up about increased patrol and reminding them of what the local laws were on open substance use, all in the name of avoiding any unnecessary run-ins. Was a peaceful conversation.
But as you can see the lefties here carry a grievance against anything involving Trump.
While the confrontation was peaceful, I felt it was a bit much. The cops seemed like they were looking for a reason to escalate things.
Also, I’m good with a crackdown on violent crime, but telling people what they can and can’t do on their own property is an overreach, IMO.
You're disagreeing with the law in that community, which is fine. But the police didn't make those laws - they were passed by the representatives who voted for them.
And I didn't see anything that resembled escalation. They introduced themselves, gave a heads-up why they were there and what to be aware of going forward.
and you’re not understanding my point…the police have been federalized to stop violent crime, not to cite people for drinking and or smoking on their front porch. Again, I’m all for cracking down on violent crime.
... "tell your boys" that smoking or drinking outside is against the law.
I can't recall if they asked for ID.
Just because Rambo's tone was civil .... this type of intimidation is offensive.
There are also reports of pulling "suspicious" motorists over. That is, persons of color are being pulled over. 4th Amendment violation. Profiling 101.

The NG is a bit over the top, but telling people to not smoke or drink outside? That’s a bit much.
It also bears repeating that every city on the hit list is intensely blue and immersed in moronic policies that increase the number of violent miscreants on the streets, facilitate criminal behavior, and feature malignant, anti-human prosecutors and judges. You happen to live in one of our best big cities, but so many of our other big cities have become shitholes. Great cities now on steady declines. I can't believe what has happened to Philly over just 15 years. People under a certain age will never believe this, but Baltimore and Detroit were once beautiful, prosperous cities. We could list a dozen more. It's an outrage what we've allowed to happen to these cities.
I was ready to quit my job and be a guard at the camps. Now you’re saying it won’t happpen?

The one I saw on CNN the cop said no drinking or smoking outside.

First the questions:
-Are they real police?
-Is the video legit and not staged?
-Has the video been doctored?
-Is this area private property? Is it really a front porch or perhaps a public structure they are trying to clean up (for ex a local library, etc, etc where they are not legally allowed to be after hours) from homelessness.
-What s the context of what is happening in the neighborhood? (Ex was their just a violent event?)
-These are police rather than NG and thus not under Trump’s or any fed control.
-The guy did NOT question the guys right to smoke a cig - the person offered up the info that he had a cig and the police guy said, “ok”
- there is no evidence of these police guys telling them that they can’t drink.
But again, are you sure this is a private home rather than a public property at night when people should not be there?
Regarding the “”You’ve heard of the Donald Trump surge” - this suggests that it is DC, but I’m not sure.
The guy is using it to take heat off of himself personally, but the only thing Trump has done is sent on NG to protect police who can then do their job. These were local police if legit. They are expected to do their jobs appropriately.
If this was a private porch, and if they then went on to do what you say, and if the video was not staged or altered, then these police do not have the right to tell them not to do legally accepted activities.
MY SUGGESTION: Get the police cam footage. The mayor has some explaining to do if the footage shows legitimately what you described, or if they weren’t wearing it.

Or even parents at a school board meeting. Those were actual existential threats to democracy that were sure enough dealt with. Smoking dope out in public saves democracy don't you know. This was was nothing more than an informational meeting so no need for the fake outrage.

There is nothing reasonable about deploying military troops to “police” US cities. Zilch!
This is all about feeding red meat to the racist MAGA base.

The issue of whether we like a certain city or state's regulations is a separate discussion. The L.E. were making sure they knew what the laws were and that enforcement was going to be stepped up. I thought it was a good dialogue, and while I may not like the laws, I would be appreciative of getting a courtesy heads-up.
not to smoke or drink outside. Like I said, I don’t mind the crackdown on violent crime, but shit like this is an overreach.
the way Tampon Tim would handle it
COVID Shut Down rules.
But is the video real or staged? Did they edit it?
Please understand that in DC, the only thing that the NG is doing is creating safety for the police so that they can do their job and arrest criminals which they felt unsafe to do before. Additionally, the DC mayor has done an about face after the cameras turned off of her and she is working gratefully behind the scenes to finally clean up the mess.
The NG is not arresting anyone.
Not NG. And I saw the video on the news. I believe it was CNN.
