prohibits local law enforcement from providing information about people in D.C. custody to federal immigration enforcement. Under that law, people cannot be held at the D.C. jail past their release date at federal immigration enforcement officers’ request. Smith’s order also said D.C. police are still forbidden to search databases solely for the purposes of inquiring about immigration status and shall not arrest people solely for immigration reasons."
