TACO entered today’s summit from a position of weakness, not strength.
Putin respects one thing: strength.
Sadly, President Trump has undercut Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
Prior to today’s powwow, the United States should have imposed huge economic tariffs and sanctions against Russia, and announced substantial military assistance to Ukraine. Then, sit down with Putin at a neutral setting, and make clear that the United States will turn up the pressure tenfold unless at a minimum, Russia agrees to an immediate ceasefire.
It was unrealistic to resolve the conflict today. But, Putin left as the stronger party.
Putin made no concessions. He just flattered and flattered, knowing Trump would eat it up
Early reports: a waste of time, because Putin is not budging from his desire to crush Ukraine.
It was worth a try. But Putin is a monster.
Yet, Baron, Hens, MAS, Cole et al demand that Ukraine surrender, so that Trump gets “a deal.”
Time will tell if Trump will punish Putin for his refusal to seek peace in good faith.
