Re: "FireAid" giving donations to local organizations...

The attached message from FireAid lists several NGOs that have received donations...among them is the LA YMCA's Food Bank. My Wife and I have been volunteering for more than 20 years straight weekly putting food and clothing directly into the hands of those in need...we have worked for several NGOs, including St. Vincent de Paul. Annual dinners are held to THANK all the donors...like a FireAid...who keep our missions going.

Don't ever again say that the donations from FireAid aren't going "Directly" to the L.A. fire victims.

That's not what "Directly" means.

to provide food, clothing, etc. DIRECTLY to those in need...My God you're DENSE...and Petulant.

You don't understand the term "directly".

Let's try it this way: if I give you $100 and you give $10 to a homeless person. I cannot say that I gave $100 directly to the homeless. But you can say that 10% of your funding goes directly to the homeless. Does this make sense to you?

Furthermore, he's still trying to wriggle through the loss with a strawman.

This isn't about "some amount" of the aid reaching "some of the victims." This is about how much of the $100MM actually went to victims.

He knows this. He's still pretending that the argument is over the legal definition of fraud.

Thread Level: 4

Yeah, I know, it's a bad faith argument that is turning emotional.

who was in real need, or just looking to take advantage of a "Cash Give Away"?

Let's get real...you're just trying to save face after promoting a podcast that does more harm than good, by making viewers distrust outstanding organizations that provided and continue to provide emergency help. You have no clue how any of this works. If you were in charge it would look like a replay of WKRP's "Direct Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway" ;-)...with even less thought put into it.

There was this lady in STL whose car was broke down and she had 2 little kids. I gave her $100.

Is the Red Cross a fraudulent operation?...they pass donations for disaster relief onto NGOs too...

but don't take just my word for it...do a little research.

Your 'Kicking and Flailing' to save face after mindlessly supporting Joe Rogan's disaster of a podcast about FireAid isn't going to make it all better. But that's your decision.

BTW, my wife and had a shift at our local SVdP Food Bank yesterday, and I asked the lady who manages it (a non-paid volunteer like the rest of us) about donations and who they are used/needed. They need those donations to buy certain foods...replace refrigerators and freezers that breakdown...buy shelving to store all the goods that are dropped off by other agencies/donors, buy fork lifts and keep them operable, etc....the net result is that we volunteers put needed food and clothing in "Customers" carts and bags...directly. That's just one example of how FireAid donations get used...there are 160 intermediaries helping the victims in L.A.

Get out of your bubble, as they say, and donate some of the time you spend on the OF in an NGO that indeed provides Direct support to thousands of very needy people...i.e. experience reality and not some "For Profit" podcast.

that actually cost money and were/are urgently needed after a conflagration like the L.A. fires?...the answer is a resounding YES. Your failure to admit that this is standard practice for Disaster Relief organizations....like the Red Cross...only amplifies your lack of knowledge or willingness to learn about reality in such situations. Joe Rogan gets paid to host all manner of opinions...even when they are dead wrong...what do you get out of making such a fool of yourself?

Cheeks are misinforming the public?

FYI...our volunteer work pales in comparison to the many 90+ yr olds that serve others...every single day. Consider donating some of your time as well to aid others in need, if you don't already.
