It would be so easy to defeat Trump if they just chose some of the 80% viewpoints.
But, per Tyrone, they are just too smart for that. They know better than 80% of the country.
Having lived in Berkely, Ann Arbor, and Oak Park - liberal enclaves tend to be echo chambers.
There are many great things about living in places like this - smart and educated people, diversity, etc. However, counter viewpoints tend not to percolate because while they may be tolerated, the juice just isn't worth the squeeze.
I think this is the Democratic machine in a nutshell today - an echo chamber divorced from healthy discussion and debate.
When smart, educated and well informed people get together they can tell right from wrong...so they
tend to agree that Trump and MAGA are definitely doing everything wrong...shouldn't come as a surprise.

Maybe, but the group think perpetrates a really inconsistent ideology that revolves around slogans
rather than well thought out and tested positions, which results in negative local outcomes (e.g., poorer streets, declining school performance, pursuit of inconsistent objectives, etc). Single party control in either direction isn't good, but from my experience, the left's striving for its various ideals produces a large number of impractical outcomes.
Before setting your feet in concrete on this, consider Googling the name...
"Sam Liccardo"...he's now a Congressman from CA, but prior to that he was the two-term Mayor of San Jose, and performed well enough to get ~75% of the vote the second time around...can't do that w/o Rep and Ind voters. I bring him up because he's an excellent example of how a Dem Mayor can "Think Outside the Box" and get things done. You'll be connected to his website that has sections on "Homelessness", "Crime", "High Cost of Living", "Housing Affordability", and other topics...not slogans, but real world initiatives and rationales for new program ideas...check it out. Would definitely appreciate your thoughts and comments about that Dem's thinking...and performance.

Based on your writings here, I’d say Sam has grown a lot more than you have since your days at
Bellarmine…suck it up and give credit where it’s due…Sam is a leader not a follower… visit his site and learn why.
Sam's done a good job with San Jose, but you can't replicate what he's done absent Google and
a population whose average income is 6X the national average. Google cleaned up San Jose through purchase of most of the downtown land and hiring of a private security force. They've also driven out most if not all of the poor black people.
Sam's model works in a very specific circumstance. It's easy to be a liberal when you have a rich backer doing all the work for you.
Contrast San Jose with San Francisco. SF has 50 billionaires living there, but it is a shit show.
SF has a much more complex situation than SJ...but my message to you is not to paint with too broad
a brush...smart, educated and well informed people can come together and do good things...as evidenced by their support (on both sides of the aisle) for Sam Liccardo.
btw, one of my BILs is a senior partner in a large SF law firm...since COVID arrived, they have virtually NO attorneys coming into the office, no matter how much the partners cajole them...and they are not alone...virtually all major businesses conduct business "remotely"...thus the city's infrastructure of restaurants, shopping, etc. are suffering...which impacts city revenues...etc., etc....not to mention the impact on the "Cash Cow" of Tourism. SJ can weather that storm more easily. You get the picture.

Yep. The inability to openly discuss and debate ideas is a major problem for the Democrats.
The right isn't immune from this, but I think more diversity of opinion is tolerated there than the left.
As a registered Democrat on this forum, it's bordering on Impossible to have an in-depth discussion
on almost any topic with Conservatives here...especially when it comes to major issues, like Abortion and a Woman's right to choose. Would you like to try such an Open Discussion?
