I'm conflicted. He's a hateful man and to be a man of God and a leader in the nation, he shouldn't be.
I wonder if he'll change his tune. I mean, now that he's hopefully seen the light.

vaccine when there is a less related option. That is not being antivax. In fact, you cannot find anywhere where he said that you shouldn't get the vaccine or that he didn't get the vaccine.
The yahoo article disingenously misrepresents his comments about microchips in a vaccine - he was commenting that some other people actually believe that.
I follow this stuff fairly closely, so I can spot the lies. Because he is a conservative catholic, he is the target of a smear campaign.

A pro life liberal can be within parameters of following catholic teaching for instance. A pro slavery conservative would not be within those parameters - especially if he supported slavery, participated in it, or acted as a candidate to enforce slavery under the guise of having to follow his electorate. Such a person for instance would not be in a state of grace for taking Holy Communion
of candidates for public office...and if not, would you advise withholding communion from him?
Cupich and Tobin. They represent an extremely liberal and certainly non orthodox perspective.
Secondly, i assume that you are asking whther McElroy himslef should have communion withheld for his view. The answer to that is of course not unless he is intentionally pushing for the abuse of the sacrament rather than coming to his views honestly. Because there is no clear action that represents a loss of grace, there would be no reason for a priest to withhold communion from mcElroy. Now if McElroy had bad intentions with his public stance (for instance to push a pro abortion agenda). then he would be obligated as a Catholic to refrain from communion. The decision to protect the eucharist falls to the priest who is there at the mass, and in cases where the person is known to be engaging is clearly evil actions constituting mortal sin, then the priest is obligated not to give communion to that person and protect the Eucharist from abuse. (Certainly, God does not need protection, but the Body of Christ is deserving of such respect).
on what defines a "Catholic"...Bishop McElroy is recognized by Pope Francis as the prelate for San Diego...not sure what you're getting at with your opening remarks...not sure I want to go there...
But to your second point...it seems like you're really not familiar with his recent writings, so I'm appending a paper that I'd like you to read and then get back to me/us on whether or not you agree with his guidance to Catholics when it comes to selecting a candidate to vote for.
It's my observation that this dialogue is heading away from the original thread posting, so feel free to start a new one...I'm sure you'll agree that it's not trivial at all, and well worth a good long run...or more than one.
Find a nice wine...sit back and take some notes as you digest the paper at your leisure...

further on this.
your call...I'll just bring it up myself as a thread topic...I'll bet dollars to donuts you'll chime in then.
...I discussed Church teaching, and known facts, but I am declining to get into specific individuals at this itme for the above reasons.
