I've played a couple of alternate shot matches and they are brutally hard on your emotions. You play 18 holes (or less) and you basically feel like you've let your partner down after every shot.
I have no horse in the Ryder Cup, so I just want to see close emotion-filled matches on Friday and Saturday, then I cheer for whoever is losing on Sunday because who doesn't love a great comeback story.
Can't wait for the Sunday singles matches. Rory against either Scott or Bryson is going to be legendary. I hope the captains find a way to make it happen.
This is going to be great. Team golf at its best.
A legendary public course for sure.
The Mid Atlantic received some rain over last 24 hours. It will be interesting how fast greens are tomorrow?? I imagine Bethpage dries rather quickly given its proximity to the sea.
I would be doing black tar heroin on 1st tee playing alternate shot. Missing a fairway on a tee shot by itself would send me spiraling. But imagine having the approach shot after your partner hits a 320 yard tee shot in perfect spot? And you miss the green or hit above the hole leaving partner with a speed racer putt? Or your partner drills approach shot, leaving you 7 foot birdie putt? Fook! More heroin please!
