POWER!
If you imagine that our current group of politicians are uniquely nasty and petty you know little about the Founding Fathers.
Jefferson, Hamilton, Adams, Burr, etc. were as disturbed as personalities as are Trump, Obama, Clinton, et al.
And yet... despite the media whipped drama, there really is no crisis because of all the checks and balances built into our precious Constitution.
If you recall, it was just a few years ago when "Demographics" meant that the Dems would have a permanent majority and that Obama was going to be able to "fundamentally transform America."
In retrospect this was a joke... as is Trump's draining of the DC swamp.
Today, there are folks going apoplectic at the fantasy that Trump will establish a fascist dictatorship.
The truth is that he is already manifesting signs of senioritis and as soon as he falters his sycophants will get over their faux allegiance and begin jockeying for their next gig.
CHILAX... it's all kabuki and Madison is chortling in heaven.
Happy Friday.
Those guys hated each other.
And Trump was exactly what Madison feared - a charismatic tyrant who can fool the masses with fake patriotism and fake faith.
Nothing like what is happening now has happened before.
You should read about how Putin destroyed Russian democracy and then compare.
They have all hated one another from 1776 until today.
Trump will be gone in no time..

A number of U.S. presidents have faced accusations of authoritarianism or dictatorial behavior, either by consolidating power, expanding executive authority during a crisis, or attacking democratic institutions. These accusations often come from political opponents or critics and have a wide range of motivations.
Historical presidents
Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR): Critics accused FDR of leading the country toward a dictatorship during the Great Depression and World War II. They cited his unprecedented use of power, including shutting down banks, creating a command economy, and running for a third and fourth term. He also faced criticism for attempting to increase the size of the Supreme Court, an event known as the "court-packing incident".
Woodrow Wilson: During World War I, Wilson was granted sweeping new powers by Congress, including the ability to control prices and take over factories. Legislation passed under his administration also enabled the prosecution of disloyal statements, a move critics deemed authoritarian.
Abraham Lincoln: President Lincoln's suspension of the writ of habeas corpus during the Civil War led to accusations that he abused his power.
Andrew Jackson: He faced criticism for his expansive use of presidential power, particularly during the Nullification Crisis, in which he threatened to use military force against South Carolina.
Sorry. Just didn't happen.
And the president never replaced a USA who refused to indict people.
Sorry.
There is no comparison.
From the article below: "In none of the Trump cases, for example, did President Joseph R. Biden Jr. ever go on social media and publicly declare his desire for Mr. Trump to be prosecuted to millions of followers. Nor did Mr. Biden appoint one of his own personal lawyers to oversee any of the Trump cases, two of which were handled by an independent special counsel, Jack Smith, and two of which were brought by local prosecutors operating beyond the control of the president."

Comey is dirty as heck, and he egregiously abused his power. No kings.

Some might argue that while Biden himself didn't direct anything related to those prosecutions, they were absolutely part of the overall leftist agenda. Democrat governors trying to keep him off the ballot, federal prosecutors in blue-friendly districts not only hunting down charges to bring against him but literally promising to do exactly that in their election campaigns. The same D.A.'s who extol the soft-on-crime policies and "reimagined justice systems" aimed to maximize charges, sentences, and penalties against Trump.
Whether it originated with Biden himself is largely irrelevant to this argument.
How does it make it OK for Trump to drastically expand the power of the presidency and remove the independence of the DOJ?
These comparisons are always trotted out to defend Trump. As if two wrongs make a right.
There are quite a few that believe that if there aren't arrests, indictments, and convictions for some of the major players who were involved, then the left will continue to pursue lawfare the next time that they have the opportunity. M.A.D. philosophy.
If/when the Dems retake power, there will be tremendous pressure from the left to do what Trump did. To escalate, because the norms have been shattered. They will try to justify it by pointing to the shit Trump pulled, and say the same crap you guys are saying now.
I will oppose it. But unless the leadership is strong, it will happen.
This notion of "deterrence" totally misunderstands American politics. That is just not how it works.
But there is zero doubt in most folks' minds that those who engaged in all of that last time will feel emboldened to continue to do so if there are no consequences.
Unfortunate, but true.

Thanks for your input.
He did have to figure out how to free the slaves from the Democrats while suppressing the Democrat insurrection. It was a tough row to hoe.
And overreaching his executive powers.
So Trump has that in common with Lincoln.
Facts, prof. Spin away.
You won’t change the facts.
