Ryder Cup Day 2: The beatdown continues.

Day 2 delivered more of the same as Day 1. Bethpage looking as gorgeous as ever and set up for lots of birdies (Keegan's choice). Fans out in huge numbers ready to (hoping to) explode and ignite a US comeback. The Europeans continuing to play completely out of their minds, sucking up all the oxygen at Bethpage. It's almost inexplicable. It seems like every time an American player made a big putt the Euros would follow it up with on of their own. It's got to be demoralizing. It appears to be.

I'm not going to do a full recap of all the matches. There's no point. It's the same story as the Friday matches. The Euro's big guns are playing better than the US's. Seven of the top golfers in the world are Americans (Scottie, Henley, Schauffele, JT, JJ, Morikawa and English). They are a combined 4W-14L-0T. Scottie and Henley, the #1 and #3 players in the world, are a combined 0W-6L-0T. That's gross. Compare that to the Euro's top 2 ranked players' (Rory and Fleetwood) record of 7W-0L-0.5T and that's your ballgame.

Emotions ran a little hotter on Friday which is natural given the scoreboard. Rory taking lots of verbal abuse from the fans which was expected. I'm all for jeering and booing. It's part of what makes the Ryder Cup so great, seeing if fans can rattle the visiting players. But fans should know enough to shut up when a player addresses the ball. That's just not cool. Rory looked rattled in the afternoon matches but Lowry picked him up and carried him to the win. I picked on JT after Friday but yesterday he was all class in the match with McIlroy doing his best to quiet the crowd. Tip of the cap to JT. Respect. And the dust up between Rose and Bryson's caddie turned pretty ugly and could have got worse, but good to see both sides cool off. Chalk that up to frustration.

So the US needs to win 10 of the 12 matches today to win the Cup. It's possible. It's never been done but there's a Lloyd Christmas chance it could happen. Keegan did the right thing and front-loaded his team, with the best players going off in the early matches. I'll be cheering for the US to get off to a great start, bring the crowd into it, and let's see where it goes. We need a little Sunday drama at the Ryder Cup.

Only need to win 8 matches…IF they halve the other 4…

It’s a mess.

Whilst I will still be there in red, white and blue…my outfit will be considerably more subdued than it might have been…

Yeah, that's true.

I should have said get 10 points, not 10 wins.

Have fun today. Get yourself about 8 natty lights deep and then I expect to see you chasing Rory down the fairway in your Fighting Irish gear.
