I'm sure Texans would be cool if the gov of Illinois deployed NG troops there without their approval

If their gov was threatening their own guardsman living there, then yes they would be grateful. Now-

just stop the violence that you libs are ramping up, and we can send the NG home.

The Left needs to stop openly resisting the law and responding with violence when they don't get their way.

Inane response. If Radical Left stops their violence against officers, everyone can go home.

Trump is well within his rights as POTUS to use the NG to protect federal agents. The SCOTUS has confirmed this. With Dem Govs Newsome and Pritzker shamelessly encouraging the doxing of the fed agents trying to do their job enforcing the law,
It became necessary to use NG from out of state.

This pisses you off because you thought you had the agents blocked and the law “RESISTed”.
You were wrong. Trump outsmarted you yet again.

So Abbott is doing this, not Trump? That does seem problematic.

It's at Trump's request, of course

Governors can't countermand the president. The NG are federal troops.

If Abbott deployed the Texas State Guard (which are not federal troops), Illinois could just arrest them. He's obviously not doing that.

Presidents almost always trump governors when it comes to command of the military, especially if the national guard units federalized.

Eisenhower sent in the 101st airborne, not the Arkansas NG

Trump is trying to expand his power here. As usual.

I thought you guys were big on states’ rights.

He put the NG under their command. The NG that blocked students became guards for the students.

I'm actually not a fan of these NG deployments, and I would be fine letting Chicago and Portland stew in their own juices. I oppose them doing anything other than guarding federal buildings. Even that should be done only when there is insufficient law enforcement support...which it sounds like there is in those blue cities. If ICE can't do its job, though, because of riots, then the NG is typically used for such things. What's weird is that the Dems think laws should not be enforced in this regard. Laws are for losers? Laws are selectively used by the Left.

And, I can't imagine what would happen if Trump did what Eisenhower did, and sent in the 101st.
