I’ve caught TDS.

We desperately need a course correction but Trump is an iceberg lurking in front of the ship of state… which is currently with no one at the helm. Obama had the decency to go play the role of Gatsby on Martha’s Vineyard. Trump should leave the scene for the good of the country… but he is a malignant narcissist and would take us all down with him in the bunker.

Trump is not only the 2024 GOP frontrunner....he's the presumptive nominee

He surely wants it. And polls have no one within 75 points of him.

So he'll be back, making revenge great again.

This feels like one that we need to place a gentleman's wager on. I just can't see Trump being the nominee.

Thread Level: 4

You can bet on it on Betfair already. Trump is in the lead but certainly not "presumptive"

Trump is at 3.5/3.7. -- $1 bet on Trump would win you $3.50
DeSantis is at 5.6/6.8 -- $1 on DeSantis wins you $5.60
Then Nicki Haley is next most active, followed by Pence.

If I were to take a flyer, I'd put money on Dan Crenshaw. His market is 80/1000. I bet if you offered to back him at $175 someone might hit you.

I wouldn't put $175 for Crenshaw for 2024.

I would for 2028, however. I think he'll need to be a Senator before anyone puts big campaign $$ into the engine on his behalf.

Thread Level: 6

Well, technically it is betting $1 to win $175

I agree he is a longshot, but that's a long shot payout, too. Almost every republican really likes the guy.

The problem is that no politician on either side dares to antagonize his or her party's most rabid members.

Indeed, especially with gerrymandered HOR districts and primary battles for federal office.

Gives the nutties an outsized advantage.

Cant see Orange winning another national election. Could see him bring the R nominee though to the everlasting disgrace of the GOP.

this negative democracy because these voters are focused on preventing electing someone who they don't like, instead electing someone they like. Let's assume these voters are right, someone they don't like would be the worst if elected. It only shows the negative democracy works only on not allowing the worst candidate to get elected. The goal of negative democracy is finding the worst and not letting him get elected. It's not a progressive system. It is not a system that allows you, after round and round of voting, after one election and another election, to you find a better and better persons in the country and put them into WH. It doesn't work like world cup tournament that the best team comes from every round of competition. In my opinion negative democracy is worse than merit-based authoritarianism.

Hillary, Trump and Biden have been the only viable options in the general the last two elections. All bad choices, IMO.

Thread Level: 3

Not true - you R’s had many options and you picked the worst one in Trump.

Biden, though not my choice is in the least a man of principal and truly works each day for the country.

Yeah, a two party system sucks but you do and did have choices.

And it limits the viable choices, eliminates 3rd party viability. The wingnuts on each side decide the choices for the general.

Also not an R, I was a Yang supporter in 2020.

Obviously the media and social media are a big part of the problem as well. Without Twitter and the media giving Trump free publicity, he doesn't win the nomination, much less the election.

Joe is just a empty soul used by Academic handlers for their own delusional agendas. I favor a lot of Trump policies but he is a malignant narcissist who is totally obsessed with himself. I see lots of very intelligent and very competent Republicans who can assume the mantle of mature and stable leadership. Sadly, Trump fanatics are as delusional as the far left.

Sadly, these personalities are very troubled and like infants make loud angry demands. Most folks now just tune out everything. Perhaps this is due to the prevalence of social media. I am hopeful that the next election will reassert moderation and maturity. People do assert themselves when voting.

You all happy what you chose instead? You want to lie awake every night then pound the keyboards because of your self inflicted TDS? Have at it. You all and the media can snuggle together waiting for the next Obama. There is only one or possibly two other serious Conservative potentials in Ron DeSantis and he probably is better served where he is at right now. The other is Ted Cruz.
