Democrats Fall Into the Mamdani Line
More feckless Dems are endorsing the socialist antisemite. He is a true gift to the GOP. We are still awaiting Schumer's endorsement. Is he so afraid of AOC that he will betray his fellow Jews?

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is the latest to endorse the socialist candidate for New York City mayor.

The parade of Democrats lining up behind Zohran Mamdani for mayor of New York City continues to grow, and the latest convert to the socialist’s cause is House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Nobody is happier than Republicans who represent the New York suburbs.
Mr. Jeffries, who represents Brooklyn, gave his blessing to Mr. Mamdani on Friday, a day before early voting began for the Nov. 4 election. “Zohran Mamdani has relentlessly focused on addressing the affordability crisis and explicitly committed to being a Mayor for all New Yorkers, including those who do not support his candidacy,” said Mr. Jeffries.
He added that “as with any Mayor, there will be areas of agreement and areas of principled disagreement. Yet, the stakes are existential,” since Donald Trump is in the White House. That’s a non sequitur since a socialist mayor could jeopardize Democratic chances of retaking the House in 2026. But then maybe Mr. Jeffries felt he had no choice given the prospect of a primary challenge from the left if he didn’t endorse the socialist.
Mr. Jeffries hesitated to endorse for weeks because he knows the risks to Democrats in the region if Mr. Mamdani becomes the poster Democrat for the GOP and tries to implement his radical agenda. That’s one reason Democrats like Reps. Josh Gottheimer in New Jersey and Tom Suozzi on Long Island aren’t endorsing the Bernie Sanders acolyte.
The big question now is whether Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader, will endorse Mr. Mamdani. Doing so would betray his long career as a supporter of Israel and opponent of antisemitism. Only after months of criticism did Mr. Mamdani say he’d “discourage” the “globalize the intifada” chant of Hamas sympathizers.
But as the left rises in the Democratic Party, the pressure to go along for the socialist ride will become more intense.
