Both sides have drastically miscalculated this issue.
The left is conflating Mamdami, VA, NJ and prop 50 with support for this issue. Those are unique situations and that’s not necessarily the right conclusion.
The right incorrectly assumes that the public understands what is going on and naturally sees the flaw in the Democrats’ approach. That’s inaccurate.
The longer this goes, the harder it will be for the “losing” side to save face. This is a mess and as you point out, stupid.
The public will blame the party in power.
The Republicans never seriously engaged the Democrats to prevent a shutdown.
Yesterday’s verdicts will force Republicans to find a path to lane the plane.

voters agreed that retaining democracy was more important than Trump's attempt to subvert it.
