Multiculturism is pie-in-the-sky when we're talking seriously contradictory core beliefs.
I personally know tons of immigrants from myriad different cultures/countries who have become terrific Americans... but they are "all in" on modern life in Western societies.
But we have also let in a gazillion folks over the past few years whose mindset is decidedly unfavorable toward the modern world... and they are not remotely open minded or amenable to change.
I'm generally pro-immigration... BUT only on a highly selective basis.

Neither is right or wrong, but they are not compatible. Those attempting to synthesize those two belief systems are either delusional or intentionally trying to sabotage one of the systems.

I think we should take more in and speed up the process.
But they absolutely need to be vetted properly.

“Assimilation”…Trump’s approach is not a good example…

As far as 'Perfection' is concerned, it is unreasonable to expect people who have lived their entire lives in a different culture, would jettison it all and assimilate immediately? Some embrace their new found refuge more easily and rapidly than others...that's just a fact of life. Personally, I've lived in two environments (NYC and the CA Bay Area) that are highly diverse...and successful because of it. A hallmark of those successes is a 'culture' of Acceptance and Welcoming. It can be done...it SHOULD be done...Everywhere.
