After a week in the Balkans... I'm convinced that immigration policies MUST be assimilating.

Multiculturism is pie-in-the-sky when we're talking seriously contradictory core beliefs.

I personally know tons of immigrants from myriad different cultures/countries who have become terrific Americans... but they are "all in" on modern life in Western societies.

But we have also let in a gazillion folks over the past few years whose mindset is decidedly unfavorable toward the modern world... and they are not remotely open minded or amenable to change.

I'm generally pro-immigration... BUT only on a highly selective basis.

You got it. You can't introduce a feudalist mindset into modern society and expect it to work.

Neither is right or wrong, but they are not compatible. Those attempting to synthesize those two belief systems are either delusional or intentionally trying to sabotage one of the systems.

Imposing corporate abuse, neglect and greed on deserving victims.

Well at least Catholicism and Islam have feudal commonalities…neither allows women to be Prelates…

I think we should take more in and speed up the process.

But they absolutely need to be vetted properly.

Without controlled borders you do not have a sovereign nation.

“Undocumented” means illegal.

“Intimidating” means holding them accountable for illegally entering our country.

You are on record below celebrating the denial of due process.

Expedited removal is legal in many situations.

But you know that.

Her deportation is tragic. But that doesn’t excuse
Illegal entry.

Do you agree that "Both Sides"...i.e. 'Native Born and Migrants should strive for Assimilation?

As far as 'Perfection' is concerned, it is unreasonable to expect people who have lived their entire lives in a different culture, would jettison it all and assimilate immediately? Some embrace their new found refuge more easily and rapidly than others...that's just a fact of life. Personally, I've lived in two environments (NYC and the CA Bay Area) that are highly diverse...and successful because of it. A hallmark of those successes is a 'culture' of Acceptance and Welcoming. It can be done...it SHOULD be done...Everywhere.

NO. By definition assimilation is a one way street.

Assimilation: In anthropology and sociology, the process whereby individuals or groups of differing ethnic heritage are absorbed into the dominant culture of a society. The process of assimilating involves taking on the traits of the dominant culture to such a degree that the assimilating group becomes socially indistinguishable from other members of the society.

The core values of many of the world's cultures are fundamentally at odds, especially among the less educated.

I actually supported immigration of the well educated from any culture/country. To a degree they are already somewhat assimilated to the modern (ie., Western) world.

I also don't know what you mean by distinguishing "native borns." Many of our country's most ardent "Americans" were immigrants or children of immigrants..

This is especially true in the scientific and high-tech communities.
