I'm still chuckling. The poor bastard truly had no idea he was saying anything wrong.
I'm thinking and I'm hoping that the fact that he's black may spare him mandatory NFL rainbow reeducation.

We called it both on the playground
Circa early to mid 80's.
I loved that game.

I never heard anyone call it anything but "Smear the Queer."

That's a longer name, not a shorter one. If any kid had called it that where I grew up, we would've
said, "You mean Smear the Queer?"
We played it all the time in 1960s Gary, Indiana. No rules. No teams. No score.
Just kill the guy with the ball. On asphalt playground in Catholic school unies. The good Nuns never tried to stop the game. Nor did they try and stop dodge ball using golf balls or British Bulldog which was a violent offshoot of Red Rover.
