Love the author's credit at the end. Preferred pronouns? Check. Hyphenated name? Check. She must be a remarkably well-read person: expertise in the arts, human sexuality, and climatology. It's a near-certainty that her IQ would be immediately apparent and blow my socks off.
About 12 years go, there was a segment on NPR about "uptalk," and it included a survey. The gist of it was that for men above a certain age, they will automatically not take a woman seriously who uses uptalk. Naturally, the producer and reporter in the segment did not propose that young women return to talking normally, but instead focused on how we can make men take uptalkers seriously. It was yet another confounding journey into the land known as, "The Lefty Mind: Yeah, I Can't Even Begin to..."
