Great song. Another misunderstood event in history.
After several days of rioting, the ROTC building had been burned to the ground by arsonists among the rioters.
The rioters nonetheless assumed the Guard had no ammo, or blanks (per interviews afterward), so they advanced on the troops who initially retreated (and who had been protecting the ROTC building before) but felt cornered when the protestors advanced too quickly. The very definition of FAFO.
I was surprised when I did a little reading about that event. There were a lot of bad facts which resulted in emboldened rioters and spooked 18 year old soldiers who were not MPs. Not a good mix at all.
The actual facts galvanized activists across the country.

It was predictable from when the incident first happened what the anti-Trumpers response would be. Same as that soy boy mayor and same as that idiot governor. I got two eyes. I saw what happened but I am willing to let it play out.

I think it was an unjustified shooting.
I’m not anti-law enforcement. I have friends and neighbors on the San Diego PD, US Marshals, and San Diego County Sheriff Dept. we don’t talk shop much and I haven’t asked them their opinion on this, but I do know that each one of them feels less safe because of what ICE is doing. This murder didn’t help.
Completely justified from the videos I saw. Play stupid games, deal with the results.
