I was unaware Chicago Bears are moving from Soldier Field?

And there’s some legal or political fight about new location, with northwest Indiana as a possible option?

Any Bears fans? Are folks upset?

Has been going on for yrs. Arlington more likely. They suggested Gary to get away from Pritzker/CHI

But it isn't a new threat. It's just that now the threat is to leave CHI AND Illinois. At this point I'll believe it when i see it.

I was surprised to learn there is interest to leave the lakefront and city.

I assume the new NFL stadium/entertainment center formula makes better business sense by building stadiums outside town.

Soldier Field is a pretty terrible venue. Parking and public transit are awful.

No bars or tailgating nearby. I think it is owned by the parks and rec department or something.

The make money by the fistful, but don't want to pay for their stadium, or taxes...there is

a real crime issue in Chicago though as you are aware. Traffic is also a mess there during games.

It's a mixed bag, but I can tell you that if they left the city and state, the NFL would probably grant another team to CHI (I doubt expansion though so somebody elsewhere would lose their team then as well). If another team moves in and the Bears are in Gary, it will not be profitable for the Bears.

Again though, if they move, I'd expect Arlington which would avoid the above for the Bears.

Didn’t want any skin in the game when came to building a stadium in San Diego, so now they’re the red headed step child of the Rams in LA.

NW Indiana has had a commission to attract an NFL team for a while. .

When the Bears announced that NW Indiana was an option then started taking soil samples in Hammond, Indiana, most Indiana residents (me included) knew that the Bears were trying to play us for fools. Their real intent is to get a sweetheart deal from Illinois Governor Jelly Belly and move to Arlington Heights, Illinois. Bear fans in Illinois were struck with real panic at the possibility of having to go to Gary, Indiana to see the Bears. But, the Bears never said Gary. They said NW Indiana which has many possibilities just across the Illinois / Indiana border. In a nutshell, it ain't happening. The Bears are most likely moving to Arlington someday. While Bear fans didn't like the idea of driving to NW Indiana to see a game, they have no problem driving that same distance to buy cheaper gas, cigs, fireworks, and groceries. As far as I'm concerned, they can stay in Illinois.

Interesting. Is there a reason the City of Chicago isn’t fighting to keep the Bears in the city?

I have been following the fight between DC and Virginia to host Commanders new stadium.

The District won. New stadium to be built on RFK footprint, which is larger than most people think.

But, DC was tenacious in keeping the team in the city. My wife’s family — Redskins season ticket holders at RFK for four decades — are happy.

The current venue has been a disaster from the jump. Horrible venue. Never made sense.

In fairness, Virginia’s plan to build stadium along Potomac was impressive.

The Bears want a Wrigleyville area surrounding the stadium. Shops, bars, restaurants. Much like the Cubs have around Wrigley Field.. That can easily happen in Arlington. They can't really do that where they are located along the lake now.
