Bad Bunny review (musical)

Disclaimer: I have been unfamiliar with Latin Trap and am not an aficionado of rap (the broader genre). Having lived in and traveled within Latin countries (and had relationships with Latin women) I love most forms of Latin music. Fluent in Portugues I'm able to pick up a lot of Spanish lyrics.

After listening to Bad Bonny in my last two one-hour commutes to work... I was unable to appreciate his work

His voice seems monotone, he has limited range, and his background sounds are monotonous and lack complexity.

His lyrical tendencies seem more sexual than romantic and exhibit misogynistic tendencies.

Most uncharacteristic for Latin music... his tunes are rarely danceable.

Since I live in the Eastern time zone and have no affiliation with either Super Bowl team... I will retire before he even takes the stage.

I suspect this will be his ten minutes of fame among the non-Latin audience.

Bad Bunny has been the world's most streamed artist on Spotify in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2025. I'm pretty sure his fame extends well beyond the Latin crowd already.

The fact that old men don't find current music appealing is so on brand for old men of every generation. Your parents were disgusted by Elvis's swinging hips on TV. It's a story as old as time.

Bad Bunny's music appeals to a wide audience. If it makes lots of people happy why do you feel the need to denegrate it? Just ignore it and go back to your oldies station. Not every genre is going to appeal to everybody. That's okay.

The TPUSA alternative halftime show is about the dumbest thing in awhile.

I can't remember a halftime show I actually wanted to watch in at least a decade. But I also recognize that I am not the target audience.

Perhaps. Think I spelled that out. His fame does extend well beyond the Latin audience for certain.

Why the NFL is taking the shot...as I said.

Freely admit I'm getting up there...however, I generally listen to a local college radio station...like at least some of nearly all genres of music and enjoy a great deal of current music...whether in English or not.

What I've seen of Bad Bunny doesn't seem all that great...to me. I'm not shocked, outraged or opposed to his performing in any way.

Find making this about politics to be silly...on both sides...but I put them on "ignore" as far as that goes, if you will.

Not turning the TV off...but I'll be freshening drinks, putting out more food and probably neatening things up...as opposed to sitting and watching intently.

To be clear, I'm not a fan of Bad Bunny.

My daughter has tried her best to get me to like his music, but it's just not for me. It makes her happy though, so that's good. She's excited for the half time show.

Let me guess... you appreciate all musical genres?

I actually praised the decision to bring him onto the Super Bowl stage... it makes marketing sense.

The fact that I am unable to appreciate his music is not denigration. I am not his target audience and I respect the reality that Latin Trap must have some value for some folks or he would not be so popular.

I don't, actually.

There's lots of music out there that's really popular that I don't get and that's okay. I don't listen to country music, classical or jazz for instance. I understand the appeal to those audiences, but I just can't get into it. I guess it depends on why an individual listens to music in the first place.

And I did see your other post in this thread and thought what you said in it was reasonable.

I do. Lots of good younger artists out there. Your stereotype is not applicable to many of the older people on the board. It's just silly.

Got a kick out of him suggesting people should learn Spanish in 4 months just for the halftime show.

I won’t find it particularly entertaining and won’t pay attention to much of it. But I’m not the target audience.

NFL taking a calculated risk shooting for new fans and more appeal to international fans over enjoyment of many traditional fans. It’s a marketing gambit. May payoff. May fall flat

Don’t much care. Would prefer to see an artist that has truly special talent. Not seeing it with “Bad Bunny”…

Based on personal experience, most non-Americans watch the Super Bowl for the commercials.

If Bad Bunny brings in an audience this move makes perfect sense.

His voice is autotuned. His music is vapid and vacuous. That's a bad combination.

500 yrs from now, Earthlings will still be marveling about the music of The Beatles.

Will they be doing the same with this Bunny clown, Gaga, Swift, or any other generic pop garbage?
