Too many people in their 40's are dying from this very preventable form of cancer.

This probably turned up on his first recommended screening.
He announced it in 2023 after dealing with it for a bit, when he would have been 46. It means he either went in for it when he was supposed to and they discovered it, or he had symptoms earlier than the recommended screening age and was diagnosed.
Doesn't sound like he blew off the procedure.

Also start getting PSA test annually, starting in your mid 30s.
Build a database. Slope in PSA numbers can help identify a red flag in diagnosing prostate cancer very early.
