Have never understood the attraction to moguls — recreationally or Olympic level.

Love all Alpine skiing events — especially Downhill and Super G. Skill, grace, and speed.

Enjoy most freestyle skiing and snowboarding events.

But moguls— not so much. I recognize the tremendous talent and guts of the athletes, but the physical moguls are unnatural. Always hated skiing moguls as a lad. Never understood the “fun” part.

A woman named Donna Weinbrecht was from a town I lived in for a time in NJ. She won the first moguls

...competition ever held in the Olympics (1992).

Her family had gotten a house at Killington and she skied Outer Limits every day, all day, all ski season. At the time that she won the gold, she was 26 and had already had 4 or 5 knee surgeries. (I know she had more after that. Blew out her ACL shortly after Olympics.)

I used to ski Outer Limits when I was younger...but never remotely the way she skied it...

I'm with Lance. That slope is No Fly Zone territory for me.

I lacked the skill set to have a meaningful run down such a slope. Hats off to you for successfully managing that run, and even more so, with 2-3 beers in the system.

Oh, and while I'm at it, fuck the two feet of fresh powder on back bowl.

I like the sound and feel of skis carving against a moderate to steep slope (groomed if necessary) on a early crisp morning.

And no skiing after lunch and a proper meal. There are other apres ski pursuits.

My back and knees hurt just looking at that. Donna should probably elects pants over shirts given

You need to ski ungroomed Mad River Glen in Vermont or Mount Bohemia in Michigan’s UP…

venue…I believe it’s ’Skier Owned’. Killington was our playground as well as the Wobbly Barn” when we finished each day.

I grew up in the late 60's and early 70's learning how to ski genuine, naturally carved moguls...

before snowboarders made a mess of those runs...once you get the hang of it, there are few greater pleasures in that sport than completing a full run down a double black diamond mogul run, in rhythm all the way to the bottom (only a handful of times for me, but worth all the falls trying)...The Olympic version lacks any challenge of the "Unexpected" shape/size/condition of a true mogul run...can't get excited about it.

btw, a golfing partner of mine was a Professional Free Style skier who did all kinds of jumps backflips, twists, etc....he was one of a group of 16 skiers who all skied together in a line and did a backflip together....might have been in a Warren Miller film or two. We reminisce about the good old days when competitions were MUCH Freer and "Improvisational"...as in the video below from the '70's...

Take a run on that beautiful ‘corduroy’ for me…that's a pleasure too.

Moguls are natural. Groomed corduroy is not.

And I'm not trying to be insulting, but you were probably trying to ski around the moguls rather than bouncing from the side of one to the next one. If you try to carve turns around the moguls, you won't be able to keep it up for too long if you're skiing at speed.
