The administration was fully aware of her writings for many years and she is a well respected
faculty member. There is no rational justification for the attacks on her or efforts to deny her the leadership position she was given. Universities need to be open to reasoned debate and that needs to include Catholic Universities. Given that Pope Francis himself acknowledged the debate over Personhood of a fetus within the RCC, it is definitely important for all universities to be part of that debate.
This assault on free speech by 'Pro-Life' elements within the Notre Dame community is ill-advised and non-productive. Fortunately, Ms Ostermann continues to be on the faculty...in good standing.

considerable expertise in South Asian affairs.
This is a major reason why "MAGA" has such a poor connotation...absolute laziness and no interest in Critical Thinking...never mind the inability to make reasoned choices. (e.g. voting for a Felon, Rapist, Fraud who tried to overthrow the 2020 election and actively seeks aid from the nation's worst enemy).
