A free society for Iranian people is not the goal of this action. It might help, but isn't the goal.
As I see it (and I am clearly not involved in the decision making process...just watching from the comfort of my family room), an Iran that is either non-nuclear, non-death-to-America/Israel, or both, are each acceptable outcomes. If the Iranian people fail to step forward to facilitate one of those goals, this can still be considered a successful action for the US, the Middle East, and even the world.

The lack of a Second Amendment does limit their ability to be free.
But, you could give this process more than a few days.
Either way, we can't give freedom to them. They must seize it. If we kill enough of the ayatollah's selected leaders, then perhaps the regular army can step up, Perhaps not, in which case we can only hope for an Islamic state 2.0, but one which decides that threatening death to America is not a good strategy, and uses other means to motivate and control its people.
