I've been to this shopping area many times, it's nice, sorta upscale so I'm kind of surprised. If you would have told me it happened around SJSU, that's a different story.

That's a totally unfounded accusation against the SJPD, and as for the city of San Jose, in spite of
over 100 languages/dialects being spoken there, it is a very safe city where people of diverse backgrounds get along very well...yet it is not immune to extremists in a population of nearly 1M. This incident will be fully investigated and we should learn before too long who the perpetrators were, and their motivation.
btw, I know that area very well...even before it became 'Santana Row' and a shopping/entertainment/eating venue across from the Valley Fair Mall.
