...btw, downvote me to your hearts content...all day, every day, if you wish...but at least in your private moments think of the deceased pilots, and the others on board who were seriously injured, along with their families.
I flew into JFK that morning.
It's always harrowing flying into and out of that airspace.
The pilots avoided greater loss of life with a split-second decision that sealed their own fate.
All aircraft crashes are upsetting, but this one hits home in that my Dad flew out of LGA many, many
times during his early career as an airline pilot, and then primarily out of JFK. While I had pass privileges during college and for a couple of years thereafter, I'd take the Crew Bus to and from the terminal and hanger with crew members and got a sense of their professional lives in the process. This sort of fatal accident should never happen, and I trust that the NTSB report will help ensure that it never does again.
