It's the right move. Won't help much, but it needs to be done.
Federal gas tax is only 18 cents a gallon. But it is part of a rather heroic international effort to save the global economy by keeping oil prices as low as possible: every strategic reserve has been opened, and most are starting to run dry; China has cut imports, decreasing demand pressure (not to help the USA, but because a global recession is not in their interest).
These are all only temporary fixes. Major shortages are coming.
Let's do some math...
If you drive 300 miles a week at 30 MPG (assume that may be an average), you save $1.80 on your 10 gallons. Completely meaningless for most.

If nothing else, it shows that he is aware of the discomfort and is trying. In reality, it is a very small and temporary price to pay for preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons. But in truth, most people can't maintain focus on what was prevented since it is not tangible to them. There are a LOT of Dems.

Agreed. Things like this, and emptying our petrol reserve seem important to some.
Personally, I don't think we should do it... just like I didn't think we should buy votes by paying off student debts for gender studies majors who likely knew they wouldn't be employable to pay off their hobby degrees (hobbygrees?)...or even for people who can pay off their debts.

You say buying votes. I say helping out ALL people who buy gas, regardless of political persuasion, gender, race or religion. Leaders for all the people. If Democrats want to bitch about it, go ahead and pay the extra Fed and state gas tax.
