When I was at ND in the late 60s we were sometimes bored enough to go to pro wrestling shows in northern Indiana (including with the real Dick the Bruiser)... just to laugh at the crowds.
I am passionate about genuine athletic competitions... but hyper-masculinized men grappling in tights in scripted and phony bouts was never my gig.
And now it's on the White House lawn!

If you were laughing at the crowds at a pro wrestling match, it was under your breath.
I've been to those matches back in the day and you would not want to square up with any of those men in tights. In or out of the ring. Though scripted, it took tremendous athletic ability to pull off the maneuvers they executed. Many were former college football players. Many endured endless surgeries. It is called entertainment. Soap opera drama in the ring. I realize it's not male topless trannies shaking what they think they have in front of the cameras at the WH on Easter Sunday, but pro wrestling was and is very popular with old and young alike. If you don't like MMA, don't watch it. Don't support it. Find something else to do. Art museum, library, Obama library, James Talarico town hall, watching PBS. Weak kneed Dems love to criticize what they don't understand. Maybe watching multi millionaire celebs strutting around at a Knicks game is your thing. Maybe watching the never ending social messaging by the NFL and MLB floats your boat. There is something for everyone.

This is about as much of a "genuine athletic competition" as there is.
I don't say this to question your guts or toughness- I'm sure you've got it. But if you've ever been in a ring or a cage with the objective of physically disabling or submitting another man through skill, endurance, and strength before he can do it to you, you wouldn't compare it to the W.W.E.
