CNN host leftwing hack? Birthing tourism statistics?

Obviously Ken Cuccinelli was way out of line here. The other day I attempted to look up statistics on birthing tourism and didn't find much. What supports the right's percentage claims of birthing tourism, etc?

How many thousands of people doing this would it take to cause you concern?

Or, would you support birthright citizenship anyway, regardless of the magnitude of the issue?

Ask yourself why it has never been a problem before. The Court's Opinion did not create "new law."

1) What makes you think it hasn't been a problem?
- China nationals have been caught doing it.
- Talk to any junior State Department employee sent to embassies overseas; they will tell you it is a big deal.

2) International air travel is a major catalyst.

3) The Biden Administration allowing millions of people in. Many crossing the Rio Grande are not from Latin America, by the way. ~3M citizens have been created by birthright citizenship and loose border policies. This is why most countries don't have birthright citizenship.

-
Now, a question for you: Why is it important to you (as a policy matter, not as a constitutional issue) for the US to have birthright citizenship?

Much more consequential than birthright citizenship.

But, the Second Amendment provides for that right. Same as the Constitution provides for birthright citizenship -- whether Ned likes it or not.

The fact that that right is enumerated in the Constitution is a bonus, not the genesis of that right.

There, I answered your policy question. Now you answer mine:

As a policy matter, why do you want everyone who can travel here, legally or illegally, to be able to create a US citizen?

I understand that the enumeration of that right in the Constitution is a bonus to you (and the genesis of that right). But why do you want non-citizens to have that right and power, apart from the Constitution?

Who comes/visits here is a question of immigration policy and Congress. It is not a question of constitutional law.

Per Anand’s sentiments, I like that people from all over the planet wish to come here. It’s good for the economy. If their babies are born here, welcome fellow citizens!

Not a threat.

Run for Congress Ned and introduce a law that pregnant women cannot enter US until post birth. Then you can peacefully sleep at night …. with your firearms next to your pillow.

"Some mothers get temporary visas specifically to secure U.S. citizenship for their newborns. These mothers are sometimes called “birth tourists.” Such births would be part of about 9,000 births in 2023 to mothers who were residents of foreign countries, according to official birth registration data from National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). These births are not counted as part of the 20,000 births to mothers with legal temporary status in 2023."

The article says 9% of births were to foreigners. Then says 9K were to residents of foreign countries. Maybe you conflated those numbers.

But 9K is not 9% of 3.6 million births, which was the total in the US in 2023. It’s 0.25%.

Again, the article is misleading at best.
